New Delhi: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced that the government will roll out an annual FASTag-based pass scheme worth Rs 3,000 for private vehicles starting this Independence Day, August 15.

In a post on social media platform X, Gadkari said the new pass will be valid for one year or up to 200 trips from the date of activation—whichever comes first.

The scheme is aimed at non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans, and is designed to ensure smoother and more affordable travel on national highways.

The minister said a dedicated link for activation and renewal of the pass will be made available on the Highway Yatra App, as well as the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

He added that the policy will help address longstanding concerns over toll plazas situated within a 60-kilometre range, and will streamline toll payments through a single, low-cost transaction.

“By reducing waiting time at toll plazas, cutting down congestion and minimising disputes, the annual pass aims to offer a fast and smooth travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners,” Gadkari said.
