New Delhi: Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, India’s evacuation efforts to bring back its citizens from the conflict-hit region continue under ‘Operation Sindoor’. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday that more than 2,200 Indian nationals have so far been evacuated from Iran.
Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that a special aircraft from Mashhad, Iran, landed in New Delhi around 3.30 am on Tuesday, carrying 292 Indian citizens.
“Under Operation Sindhu, 2,295 Indian nationals have been brought back from Iran so far,” Jaiswal said. He also confirmed that a C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force had evacuated 165 Indians from Israel.
The government has stepped up evacuation efforts following the intensification of hostilities between Iran and Israel, with airstrikes exchanged over the past several days.
