India posted 336 for 3 at stumps, with Gill and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant (53*) unbeaten at the crease. Jaiswal scored his sixth Test century, making 101 off 159 balls, laced with 16 fours and one six, before being dismissed by Ben Stokes. The left-hander batted at a strike rate of 63.52.
Captain Gill played a fluent knock, reaching 118 off 156 balls with 15 boundaries and a six, maintaining a strike rate of 75.64. He shared two key partnerships — 123 runs with Jaiswal for the third wicket and an unbroken stand with Pant worth 94 runs. Pant contributed a steady 53* off 93 deliveries, hitting five fours and a six.
Earlier, KL Rahul made 42 off 78 balls (8×4) before being caught by Joe Root at slip off Brydon Carse. Debutant B. Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for a duck after facing four deliveries, edging Ben Stokes to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
England’s bowling success was limited, with Stokes and Carse claiming one wicket each. Extras contributed 22 runs to India’s total, including a bye. Match is in progress.
