Chandigarh: The Centre has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi. The extension will be effective from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) informed the Haryana Government about the decision on Thursday. The Naib Saini-led government had requested the extension, as Rastogi was set to retire on June 30.

The move has dashed the hopes of several senior bureaucrats who were eyeing the top post.

Four officers from the 1990 batch — Sudhir Rajpal, Sumita Mishra, Anand Mohan Sharan and Raja Shekhar Vandru — and five officers from the 1991 batch — Vineet Garg, Anil Malik, G Anupama, A K Singh and Abhilaksh Lekhi — were considered contenders for the Chief Secretary position.
