Filmmaker Mira Nair, mother of Zohran Mamdani, mentioned in Epstein files

Washington: Newly released files by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) related to Jeffrey Epstein include a 2009 email that refers to a party held at the New York residence of Ghislaine Maxwell.

According to the documents, the email was sent by publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein. In the message, Siegal mentioned that she had returned from an “after-party” organised to celebrate a film by noted filmmaker Mira Nair.

The files clarify that Mira Nair’s name appears only in the context of this social gathering. No allegation of illegal activity or wrongdoing has been made against her in the released documents.

Nair’s name has drawn renewed attention as she is the mother of Zohran Mamdani, a politician and candidate for the mayoral post of New York City. This connection has led to the resurfacing of the old record being viewed through the lens of current political developments.

Officials from the DOJ have emphasised that the presence of a person’s name in emails or guest lists does not imply involvement in criminal activity. They stressed that such documents must be read with caution and in proper context.
