SAD files complaint with ECI on chasing of Kanchanpreet Kaur by unidentified police officials, demands action

Tarn Taran Eelection News:  Shiromani Akali Dal has filed a complaint with Election Commission of India (ECI) with regards to chasing of Kanchanpreet Kaur d/o Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa candidate of Shiromani Akali Dal in Tarn Taran bye poll and has demand action against the guilty.

In its written complaint, SAD Chief Spokesman and Chairman of Legal Cell, Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kler said that a serious and alarming incident occurred in Tarn Taran yesterday, involving an apparent misuse of police authority and violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Party said that two unidentified persons were chasing Ms. Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of Smt. Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, the candidate of the Shiromani Akali Dal. He said that when these persons were intercepted by members of the general public, they claimed to be police officials deputed by Sh. Riputapan Singh, PPS, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Tarn Taran, and Sh. Prabhjit Singh, 48/Asr, Incharge, CIA Tarn Taran.

He said that these persons were unable to produce any written orders or official authorization for their alleged duty. It was also found that the vehicle they were using was a private car bearing a fake number plate, which raises grave concerns about the legality and intent of their actions. Importantly, both individuals were not in uniform, further casting doubt on their official capacity.

He said that the entire incident was videographed by those present at the spot. He said that this incident clearly amounts to an attempt to intimidate and threaten the candidate and her family, allegedly at the behest of the state machinery. Such conduct not only undermines the fairness of the electoral process but also constitutes a serious breach of the Model Code of Conduct, which mandates that the police and administrative machinery must remain neutral and not be used to influence or harass political opponents.

Advocate Kler demanded that ECI should order an immediate inquiry into the incident, including the role of the concerned police officers, suspend the officers named above pending the outcome of the inquiry, ensure adequate protection to the candidate and her family to prevent any further harassment or intimidation and clarify how police personnel can be deployed in plain clothes, using private vehicles with fake number plates, and without written authorization during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
