2018-Batch IAS Officer Varjeet Walia Assumes Charge as Deputy Commissioner, Patiala

Ensuring benefits of government flagship schemes reach people as per Chief Minister’s directions will be top priority: Varjeet Walia

Patiala News: 2018-batch young IAS officer Varjeet Walia today formally assumed charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Patiala. He has taken over from Dr Preeti Yadav, who has been transferred as Managing Director, MARKFED.

After assuming charge, Varjeet Walia stated that his foremost priority would be to ensure the time-bound completion of all ongoing development works in the district in accordance with the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and to ensure that the benefits of all flagship schemes of the Punjab Government reach the people at the grassroots level.

He further said that, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, realizing the vision of a drug-free and vibrant Punjab, strengthening health and education sectors, and ensuring door-to-door outreach of the Chief Minister Health Scheme would be among his key priorities. He also emphasized making the delivery of government services transparent, efficient and time-bound for the convenience of citizens.

It is noteworthy that Varjeet Walia, a 2018-batch IAS officer, is a Chemical Engineering graduate from IIT Delhi. Prior to his posting in Patiala, he served as Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar. Earlier, he has also served as Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, ADC Sangrur and SDM Barnala.

At the time of assuming charge, his wife, IRS officer Tania Bans, and son, Vartaaj Walia, were also present. After taking charge as Deputy Commissioner, Varjeet Walia paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib and Mata Sri Kali Devi Temple, praying for peace and prosperity for all.

On the occasion, SP Vaibhav Chaudhary, ADCs Damanjit Singh Mann, Simarpreet Kaur and Dr Ismat Vijay Singh, SP Palvinder Singh Cheema, Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation Deepjyot Kaur, SDM Harjot Kaur Mavi, District Revenue Officer Ankita Agarwal, along with other officers and staff of the DC office, extended a warm welcome to the new Deputy Commissioner. Earlier, upon his arrival at the District Administrative Complex, a contingent of the Patiala Police presented a Guard of Honour.
