CHANDIGARH/PHILLAUR, July 21:
Amidst the ongoing anti-drugs campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab’s ‘Safe Punjab’ WhatsApp Chatbot portal— 9779100200— has achieved an unprecedented 30 percent tip conversion rate, with the information received from the people has led to the registration of 3671 first information reports (FIRs) and 4872 arrests since March 1, 2025, informed Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.
Notably, the ‘Safe Punjab’ anti-drug helpline 97791-00200 is a flagship initiative of the Punjab Government aimed at providing anonymous, accessible, and non-judgmental support to individuals grappling with drug-related issues.
“Safe Punjab Chatbot has emerged as a game-changer as it has received an overwhelming response from the public for its confidentiality feature encouraging individuals to report smugglers, addicts, and providing suggestions,” said the DGP, while further encouraging people to anonymously share information regarding drug traffickers on this chatbot without any fear.
The DGP was chairing a state-level Law & Order Meeting with all Range DIGs, SSPs, and CPs at Maharaja Ranjit Singh-Punjab Police Academy (MRS-PPA), Phillaur, to review the drug law enforcement in ongoing Yudh Nashian Virudh, the law & order situation and internal security scenario in the state. Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla, Special DGP Intelligence Praveen Sinha, Director PPA Phillaur Anita Punj, ADGP ANTF Nilabh Kishore, ADGP AGTF Promod Ban and ADGP Counter Intelligence (CI) Amit Prasad and IGP Headquaters Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill also attended the meeting.
Sharing outcome of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that Punjab Police has registered 14,281 FIRs and arrested 22,772 drug smugglers since March 1, 2025, and recovered 940 kg heroin, 337 kg opium, 18 ton poppy husk, 14 kg charas, 325 kg ganja, 6 kg ICE, 3.3 kg cocaine, 29.63 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets and Rs 11.84 crores drug money from their possession. During the campaign, as many as 162 illegally constructed properties of drug smugglers have been demolished as per law.
He informed that Punjab Police has achieved a significant success on the legal front by attaining 90 percent conviction rate in the NDPS act cases since March 1, 2025.
The DGP said apart from ongoing decisive war against drugs, action against organised crime, gangsters and Pak-sponsored terror activities have been the Punjab Police’s topmost priority and perpetrators in all the major cases have been identified. “All major organised crime and gangster related cases have been traced, and 100% of terror cases have been solved,” he said.
On the occasion, Special DGP Law & Order Arpit Shukla, Special DGP Intelligence Praveen Sinha, ADGP ANTF Nilabh Kishore, ADGP AGTF Promod Ban and ADGP CI Amit Prasad addressed the field officers about the latest trends in drug trafficking, Pak-sponsored terrorism, Organised Crime and important issues impacting law and order in the state.
