No shortage of domestic LPG; consumers advised against panic booking: Simarpreet Kaur
Patiala News (March 19): Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Simarpreet Kaur today convened a meeting to review the supply and distribution of domestic and commercial LPG in district Patiala.
While assessing the availability of gas in hospitals, schools and other educational institutions, the ADC directed the Health and Education Departments to prepare a list of large hospitals and schools with high gas consumption. She emphasised that such institutions should be encouraged to shift to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to ensure a more stable and uninterrupted supply.
Reassuring the public, ADC Simarpreet Kaur stated that there is no shortage of domestic LPG in the district and urged consumers to avoid panic booking, noting that unnecessary bookings are putting avoidable pressure on the supply system.
Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Rachna informed that no hospital has reported any issue regarding LPG supply so far. Similarly, District Education Officer Shalu Mehra stated that no school has raised any concern about the availability of LPG cylinders.
District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Dr. Ravinder Kaur informed that LPG agencies have been directed to create awareness among consumers regarding e-KYC, which can be completed at their doorstep or through mobile applications. She further stated that strict action is being taken against the illegal use of domestic LPG cylinders in commercial establishments, and enforcement teams are conducting regular inspections to monitor stock and distribution.
Representatives of oil companies, including Kamal Maheshwari, DGM, Nabha LPG Bottling Plant (IOCL), and Raghaw Gupta, Sales Manager (LPG), BPCL, informed that there is no disruption in domestic LPG supply. They added that while supply levels in March remain consistent with January and February, the number of domestic cylinder bookings has increased nearly threefold. As per government guidelines, commercial LPG supply has been curtailed, except for essential services such as healthcare and education.
DSP Neha Aggarwal assured full support from the Police Department in ensuring smooth supply and enforcement.
Officials from various departments, along with representatives of gas agencies and petroleum companies, were present in the meeting.
