Prime Minister Modi announces an 11-point package for Punjab

Punjab E News (September 9): Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Punjab and held a meeting with officials and affected people in Gurdaspur to assess the disaster.

The Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab welcomed Prime Minister Modi’s announcement of an 11-point package for Punjab.

Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar and State Working President Ashwani Sharma both expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for standing with Punjab during this calamity and extending support to the affected people.

The Prime Minister had earlier stated that in this time of grief and hardship, the Central Government will work shoulder to shoulder with the people.

The announcements made by the Prime Minister for Punjab are as follows:

👉 Financial relief of ₹1,600 crore for Punjab,
➖ This amount will be separate from the already disbursed ₹12,000 crore to the State Government.

👉 Advance release of the second installment of the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) and the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi.

👉 Through a multi-dimensional plan, measures will include reconstruction of houses under the PM Awas Yojana, repair of National Highways, rebuilding of schools, provision of mini kits for livestock, and relief support through the PMNRF fund.

👉 Additional assistance will be given to farmers who currently lack electricity connections, keeping in view the critical needs of the farming community.

👉 Based on the State Government’s special proposal, support will be provided under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) for renovation of borewells that are either flooded or washed away.

👉 For diesel-operated bore pumps and solar panels, facilities will be provided in convergence with MNRE, along with support for micro-irrigation under the “Per Drop More Crop” guidelines.

👉 Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, financial support will be provided to eligible families whose houses were damaged in the floods, as part of a “special project” submitted by the Punjab Government for rural reconstruction.

👉 Government schools recently damaged in the floods will receive financial assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The State Government will be required to submit all necessary supporting details as per guidelines.

👉 Under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Programme, large-scale construction of recharge structures for water conservation will be undertaken in Punjab. This aims at repairing damaged recharge systems and creating additional water conservation infrastructure.

👉 Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh per person to the next of kin of those who lost their lives during the floods, and ₹50,000 for treatment of the seriously injured.

👉 Children orphaned during the floods will be provided support under the PM Child Care Scheme.
