Jalandhar: Senior Congress leader Avtar Henry on Wednesday criticised suspended party leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu for her continued accusations against the Congress leadership, including her recent claim of a ₹500 crore scam in ticket distribution. Henry said her remarks appear to be made “at the behest of someone” with the intention of damaging the party.
Henry said that at a time when the Congress is preparing for upcoming organisational and electoral challenges, such statements only weaken internal unity. He added that party workers on the ground are “deeply disappointed” by Kaur’s comments, which he believes are politically motivated.
Earlier this week, Kaur was served a legal notice by Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa demanding an apology for levelling “defamatory” allegations against him. Kaur rejected the notice, calling it baseless, and said she stands by her statements.
The Punjab Congress leadership has already suspended her from the primary membership of the party for the remarks. Several senior leaders, including district president Saurav Madan Mithu, have also criticised Kaur, saying that such allegations without evidence harm the party’s image.
Henry reiterated that internal matters should be resolved within party forums and warned that continued public attacks against the party could warrant further disciplinary action.
