Sant Seechewal delivers food and cooking gas cylinders to flood-hit families despite heavy rains
Sultanpur Lodhi: The changing course of the Bias river has started damaging more than half a dozen houses in Baupur Mand area. Cracks have developed in the walls, forcing residents to vacate their homes.
Using a large boat constructed by Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, belongings of two families were transported together to safer locations.
Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Mubarakpur, said the river is now flowing right in front of his house, with strong currents hitting the walls directly.
“The foundation of my house has weakened, and big cracks have appeared. The collapse started this morning, so I immediately began shifting things out,” he said. Singh added that six other houses in the area have been affected by the altered flow of the Bias. “If Sant Seechewal had not sent his large boat on time, all our belongings would have been washed away,” he said.
Despite heavy rain on Saturday, Sant Seechewal continued to distribute food to families trapped in flood-affected areas.
To address the shortage of cooking gas cylinders in flood-hit regions, Sant Seechewal has been providing filled cylinders free of cost.
“People’s homes have been under water for the past 27 days. Whatever they demand is being arranged,” he said. Over the past few days, demand for gas cylinders has risen sharply. To meet the need, a vehicle carrying cylinders was brought to the Baupur embankment and 15 cylinders were delivered to families today.
