Raid on Majithia’s CA exposes falsification – Majithia’s documents say one thing, recovered records say another

Punjab News: In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the disproportionate assets case against senior Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, a local court on Sunday sent Majithia to 14 days of judicial custody. His vigilance remand was ending today, after which the prosecution sought judicial custody.

Providing details, Additional Advocate General (AAG) Punjab, Ferry Sofat said, “An application was moved for judicial custody and the court has sent Bikram Majithia to judicial remand. He will be lodged in New Nabha Jail, and the next date of hearing is July 19, when he will be produced again.”

During the course of the 12-day vigilance remand, several important leads and documents were recovered, Sofat informed. “The investigation has brought many new facts to light. The court has been apprised that if needed, the investigating agency may seek an additional three-day police remand in the future,” he said.

One of the key breakthroughs came after various raids on Majithia’s properties in Shimla and Majitha, where several documents were seized. “What Majithia’s own documents stated is contradictory to what has emerged from the seized records,” Sofat said.

The vigilance teams also conducted raids at various locations linked to Majithia in Shimla, Gorakhpur, and multiple sites in Delhi, uncovering more evidence. “If required, Majithia can be summoned again for questioning or for any further raids,” Sofat stated.

He said that under the provisions of the new legal framework, the investigative agencies have the authority to apply for remand again if fresh material justifies it. “Any future action, including fresh remand, will be based on findings submitted under the BNSS Act,” he said.

The case pertains to allegations of assets amassed by Akaki leader Bikram Majithia disproportionate to his known sources of income, and is being investigated by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. The investigation is expected to continue in light of the new documents and evidence recovered.
