Chandigarh: Senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in a drug money and disproportionate assets case, will be produced before a Mohali court today as his seven-day remand ends. Tight security arrangements have been made outside the court ahead of his appearance.
Majithia’s lawyers have already moved the high court challenging his arrest.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has accused the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of imposing an “undeclared emergency” in the state.
Sharing a video clip of Akali workers from Lodhi Nangal on Facebook, Badal claimed that party workers coming to express solidarity with Majithia in Mohali are being stopped at blockades and are not being allowed to reach the court.
