Ludhiana: The body of a man was recovered from a blue plastic drum in Ludhiana’s Sherpur area, triggering suspicion of a well-planned murder. According to police, the body was found wrapped in a plastic sack with the neck and leg tied with a rope. Locals alerted the police after noticing a foul smell coming from the area.

Kulwant Kaur, Station House Officer of Division Number 6, said that the deceased appears to be a migrant. “The body has been sent to the mortuary of the civil hospital for postmortem. No visible injury marks have been found so far, but the condition of the body is deteriorated,” she said.

Police believe the murder was premeditated, as the drum used to dispose of the body was brand new. Ludhiana has around 42 drum manufacturing units, and a list of these companies has been compiled as part of the investigation.

A large-scale probe is underway in a five-kilometre radius of the crime scene. CCTV footage, including Safe City surveillance cameras and those at railway stations and bus stands, are being reviewed. The police are also tracking suspicious vehicle movements from Ladowal toll plaza to Sherpur.
