Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered two separate FIRs in connection with the attack on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath of the Indian Army earlier this year in Punjab’s Patiala.
The officer and his son were allegedly attacked by police personnel outside a roadside dhaba near Rajindra Hospital in March.
Officials said the CBI took over the case following directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which transferred the probe to the agency after the Chandigarh Police found loopholes in the initial investigation. A Special Crime Unit will now handle the case.
One FIR was registered by Colonel Bath, while the other was filed by the dhaba owner under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The colonel’s FIR was registered on March 22, while the dhaba owner’s FIR, dated March 15, reportedly favoured the police personnel allegedly involved in the incident.
According to officials, 12 policemen allegedly attacked Colonel Bath and his son Angad during a parking dispute near the dhaba. The colonel’s hand was fractured in the assault, while his son sustained serious head injuries.
