Tarn Taran: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Saturday handed over three advanced anti-drone systems to the Punjab Police, making Punjab the first state in the country to be equipped with such technology.
The systems were formally inaugurated in Tarn Taran by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Kejriwal said Punjab had been “completely ruined” by drugs under previous governments, alleging they colluded with smugglers to deliver narcotics to households.
“After our government came, we waged a war against drugs. No matter how big a minister, officer, or smuggler – we did not spare anyone. The luxurious houses built with drug money are being demolished, and the black money is being used for children’s education and people’s treatment,” he said.
He added that a large portion of drugs in Punjab originates from Pakistan and is smuggled through drones. “Now, if a drone comes from Pakistan, it will be shot down immediately,” Kejriwal said.
The state has ordered a total of nine hi-tech anti-drone systems at a cost of ₹51.41 crore, with six more expected to arrive soon. The government has indicated that additional systems will be purchased if required.
Officials described the deployment as a “game-changer” in preventing cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons.
