Ferozepur: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday visited flood-hit areas of Ferozepur by boat to assess the ground situation.
Expressing concern over the meagre compensation being given, Mann urged the Centre to revise the criteria for relief. He said that while the State Disaster Relief Fund had adequate funds, the existing parameters under the Union home ministry’s guidelines were insufficient to cover the losses suffered by farmers, cattle rearers and other sections.
“The notified conditions are not relevant compared to the actual loss. The compensation per acre is very low compared to the rising cost of rearing crops,” the Chief Minister said.
