Chandigarh: Panthic ideology resurfaced after nearly fifteen years in the constituency once seen as the political stronghold of late Akali leader Captain Kanwaljit Singh, during a meeting of the recruitment committee formed under the auspices of Sri Akal Takht.

The gathering witnessed significant participation from local sangats, led by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Nirmail Singh Jola.

Former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, voiced serious concerns about the current political atmosphere in Punjab. Referring to recent incidents of custodial deaths of youth, he said there appeared to be a larger conspiracy aimed at pushing Punjab back into a state of turmoil. He also described the recent demand to rename Panjab University as a major conspiracy against the state.

“Anti-Punjab forces are trying to create a divide between Hindus and Sikhs by portraying issues such as language, capital, water, and agriculture as concerns specific to the Sikh community,” he said, urging unity to safeguard Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat.

Manpreet Singh Ayali affirmed that the recruitment committee is dedicated to providing leadership rooted in the interests of Punjab and the Panth. He said that after the recruitment process is completed, focus will shift to building the organisational structure, and the new leadership will rise above personal ambitions to stand firmly for Punjab and the Panth.

Jathedar Iqbal Singh Jhundan also stressed the need for collective unity and criticised the current leadership emerging from Sri Akal Takht Sahib. “This so-called leadership is merely pretending to be the well-wisher of the Panth,” he said.
