DC drives tractor himself to promote stubble management

Reduction in stubble burning cases due to efforts of administration and cooperation of farmers

Sultanpur Lodhi / Kapurthala News: Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala, Sh. Amit Kumar Panchal, today drove a tractor himself in the fields of village Randhirpur, Sultanpur Lodhi, giving a message to farmers to manage stubble within their fields instead of setting it on fire. He, along with SSP Sh. Gaurav Toora, interacted with farmers at Hebatpur and Randhirpur regarding their ongoing efforts for stubble management.

At village Randhirpur, he operated a rotavator in a field where farmers had managed stubble in situ and were preparing the land for potato cultivation.

During his interaction with the farmers, Sh. Panchal said that due to the consistent efforts of the district administration and the cooperation of the farmers, incidents of stubble burning have significantly reduced this season. He mentioned that the administration, through the “Parali Protection Force” and other officials, visited 27 hotspot villages to make farmers aware of the harmful effects of burning stubble — resulting in positive outcomes.

Sh. Panchal further informed that around 5,436 machines have been distributed to farmers by the Agriculture Department under the subsidy scheme. With these, farmers are managing stubble both in-situ and ex-situ, which benefits not only the environment but also improves the soil health.

Deputy Commissioner also said that 22 cooperative societies in the district are providing mulchers, reversible ploughs, tractors, rotavators, and other agricultural equipment on rent to farmers, ensuring they do not face any difficulty in stubble management.

He appealed to farmers to mix the stubble back into the soil instead of burning it, as this enhances soil fertility. He added that Punjab’s farmers, who contribute more than 50% to the nation’s food grain reserves, can also play a leading role in protecting the environment.

Present on the occasion were Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. H.P.S. Bharot, Agriculture Development Officer Dr. Jaspal Singh, Agriculture Extension Officer Parminder Kumar, and others.
