DC inspects flood relief centres late at night

Reiterates Punjab Government’s commitment to deal with the flood situation

Jalandhar News: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal inspected the arrangements at the flood relief centres late at night. He directed the officers and employees deployed at the relief centres to perform their duties with full dedication and sincerity. He said that in the event of floods, proper arrangements must be ensured in advance so that, whenever required, relief can be provided to the people in an appropriate and committed manner.

Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment, he said that 54 relief centres have been set up in the district for the convenience of people residing in flood-prone areas, where, apart from medical facilities, all necessary assistance will be ensured. He informed that 8 relief centres are currently operational, where residents of sensitive areas have been shifted as a precautionary measure. Meeting the families living there, he assured them that there was no need to panic as the Punjab Government stands firmly with them.

The Deputy Commissioner said that a flood control room has been established for information and assistance related to floods, with helpline number 0181-2240064. He informed that after 1.14 lakh cusecs of water were released from Ropar on Monday evening, the water level in the Sutlej would rise, therefore precautionary measures are necessary. He appealed to the people of low-lying and flood-prone areas to avoid going near the river banks and to shift to relief camps set up at higher places whenever required.

Dr. Aggarwal also urged people to refrain from going near the river banks. He said that administrative teams have been deployed in sensitive villages and awareness is also being spread among the people. He also appealed to people not to gather unnecessarily at the Sutlej embankment.

On this occasion, SDM Shubhi Angra, DSP Omkar Singh Barar, DRO Navdeep Singh Bhogal and Nodal Officer Secretary RTA Balbir Raj Singh were also present.
