People should not panic, situation under control: Dr. Preeti Yadav
Patiala News: Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav today once again reviewed the flow of rivers in the district by visiting ground zero. She inspected the water level of the Ghaggar at Devigarh and the Tangri river at Khatauli near Dudhansadhan.
She was accompanied by SDM Dudhansadhan Kirpalveer Singh, Superintending Engineer of the Drainage Department Rajinder Ghai, Executive Engineer Pratham Gambhir, other senior officials, local dignitaries, and representatives of MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra.
Interacting with local residents, the Deputy Commissioner said that due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the Ghaggar and Tangri, the water level of these rivers has risen considerably, leading to overflow into fields in several villages. She added that as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the entire district administration and machinery are working round the clock at ground zero.
Dr. Yadav said, “We have been continuously monitoring the situation for the last three days, and now the water level has started receding, which is visible in Rajpura and Ghanaur areas. However, since the flow will move towards Samana and Shutrana, all departments remain on constant alert and are fully prepared to handle any emergency.”
The Deputy Commissioner assured residents that no water has entered Patiala’s Vadi Nadi or Chotti Nadi and there is no likelihood at present. She urged the public not to panic. For assistance, citizens may contact the district control rooms at 0175-2350550 and 0175-2358550, which remain operational 24×7.
She also appealed to people not to spread or believe in rumours related to floods, and to rely only on official updates through the district administration’s official Twitter/X handle @DCPatiala and the Facebook page of DPRO Patiala. She informed that all rivers and drains in the district are being monitored round the clock, and special emergency response teams have been constituted.
Advising residents to stay away from the banks of the Ghaggar, Tangri, and Markanda due to the heavy rainfall, Dr. Yadav said that officers are in constant touch with local villagers to obtain ground-level information. She added that adequate machinery and equipment have been stationed at vulnerable points to strengthen embankments and provide necessary assistance.
The Deputy Commissioner also thanked local residents for their cooperation and for keeping the administration updated with timely information, which is helping in effectively managing the situation.
