District Legal Services Authority Jalandhar Observes World Human Rights Day

Jalandhar News: The District Legal Services Authority today organised a ceremony at the local Meritorious School campus on the occasion of World Human Rights Day. This day is observed worldwide in remembrance of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

Students, teachers, members of the legal community, and the team of the District Legal Services Authority enthusiastically participated in the event. The main objective of celebrating this day was to raise awareness about the importance of fundamental human rights and ensuring justice and dignity for all.

The ceremony was held under the leadership of District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Mr Nirbhau Singh Gill. Ld. CJM-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mr Rahul Kumar Azad, informed students in a dedicated session about various provisions of the UDHR and the legal aid services provided by the District Legal Services Authority to the weaker sections of society. He laid special emphasis on the right to free legal services and the available means to access justice.

He said that World Human Rights Day reminds us that the global struggle for rights is ongoing. This event at Meritorious School is a small step towards making our youth—who are the leaders of tomorrow—aware of their rights and responsibilities. He added that the District Legal Services Authority is fully committed to ensuring that “Justice for All” becomes a concrete reality and not just a slogan, through effective legal aid and awareness programmes. He further explained that under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, the District Legal Services Authority is entrusted with the responsibility of providing free and competent legal services to the needy, organising Lok Adalats for amicable dispute settlement, and conducting legal awareness campaigns across the district.

He also informed that under the guidance of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority Jalandhar has launched a one-month campaign on the theme “Drug-Free Punjab” from December 6, 2025 to January 6, 2026. In this regard, awareness programmes and rallies will be organised in schools, colleges, villages, and community centres across the district through panel advocates and para-legal volunteers to educate youth and the general public about the harmful effects of drugs.

On this occasion, Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary) Rajiv Joshi, Lecturer Prabhjot Kaur, Warden Sukhwinder Singh, school teachers, Senior Assistants Jagannath and Sukhpal were also present.
