Jalandhar News: AAP’s Jalandhar Central Halka In-Charge Nitin Kohli and Chairperson of the Jalandhar Improvement Trust, Rajwinder Kaur Thiara have together resolved years-old issue by clearing the path for the second entry to the Jalandhar Railway Station.

Their united efforts have brought much-needed relief to nearby residents and are being hailed as a milestone in local development

The project had been stalled for years, causing immense inconvenience to residents of surrounding housing societies. Despite repeated representations and appeals, the issue remained unresolved, until the combined efforts of Kohli and Thiara finally bore fruit.

The issue revolved around the Surya Enclave Extension (94.97 acres) development scheme, where unauthorized structures and slums known as Qaji Mandi had been built on the land designated for the second entry gate. The proposal had been pending with the government since 2018.

As a result, key colonies including Surya Enclave, Surya Enclave Extension, Guru Gobind Singh Scheme, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Scheme, and the population along the PAP Chowk will now gain improved and direct access to the railway station.

Key Developments and Impact:

1. Direct Connectivity to City Restored

A 120-foot-wide road was proposed over the area occupied by slums, but the encroachments had blocked this crucial link to Damoria Bridge.

As a solution, the Trust decided to provide alternative plots (1.5 to 2 marla) on reserved multi-storey housing sites to slum dwellers. This plan, pending since 2019, has now been approved by the government.

It included allotment of 186 plots (and an additional 26 later) to displaced families from Latifpura under Resolution No. 29 (Series 2). The approval paves the way for the road to open, giving direct access from the Trust’s 4 major schemes to the city and enhancing infrastructure for plot holders who’ve waited since 2011.

2. Stalled Development Projects to Resume

Due to lack of funds, various development works in Surya Enclave, Surya Enclave Extension, Guru Gobind Singh Scheme, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Scheme had been stalled for the past 5–6 years.

Now, tenders have been invited, and the government is set to pass proposals soon to begin the long-awaited infrastructure development.

3. Permanent Solution to Sewerage Problem

Residents were facing severe issues as untreated sewage from the Kishanpura Disposal Plant was being diverted into plots in Surya Enclave and other Trust colonies.

In response, the Trust laid down a new sewerage system eight months ago. To fully resolve the issue, Jalandhar Municipal Corporation has invited tenders to extend sewer lines up to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), which will be completed soon.

This coordinated push by Nitin Kohli and Rajwinder Thiara has not only cleared a crucial infrastructural bottleneck but has also revived long-delayed development across Jalandhar, bringing long-awaited relief and progress to thousands of residents
