Chandigarh: The Punjab government has promoted eight IPS officers of the 1994 batch to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP), including two women officers. With this, the total number of officers holding the DGP rank in the state has risen to 20.
Those promoted include Praveen Kumar Sinha, Anita Punj, Naresh Kumar, Ram Singh, Sudhanshu Srivastava, V Chandrasekhar, Amardeep Singh Rai and Neerja V Rai. All of them were serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) prior to their promotion.
According to the rules, IPS officers with 18, 25, and 30 years of service can be promoted to the ranks of Inspector General, ADGP, and DGP, respectively.
As per the Department of Personnel, Government of India’s provisions and notifications, Punjab has two sanctioned posts for DGP.
