Jalandhar News: Members of the Electronic Media Association, led by president Sandeep Sahi, met Jalandhar Mayor Vanit Dheer on Wednesday to raise concerns about individuals posing as journalists and allegedly blackmailing people in the city.

Sahi informed the mayor that certain individuals, who claim to be journalists, have been extorting residents under the guise of journalism. He said these individuals have started filing complaints with the municipal corporation against residents, targeting their homes and shops to harass them.

The association urged the mayor to ensure that no action is taken on complaints filed by such fake journalists, arguing that the role of a journalist is to report news, not to file complaints against people.

Sahi also alleged that a few municipal staff were colluding with these individuals. Mayor Dheer acknowledged that some corporation employees were involved and assured the association that the civic body would join hands with them to launch a campaign to protect residents from harassment.

Those present at the meeting included Narendra Nandan, Pawan Dhupar, Paramjit Singh Rangpuri, Ashwani Malhotra, Vinay Pal Zaid, Naresh Bhardwaj, Sudhir Puri, Rajesh Sharma, Madan Bhardwaj, Manish Sharma, Pankaj Soni, Jatinder Sharma ,Atul Sharma, Praveen Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, Kush Chawla, Jaspreet Singh, Pradeep Sharma, Nonu and others.
