Fire engulfs car of Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De election in-charge in Tarn Taran, one critical

TARN TARAN: A fire broke out in the vehicle of Sukhdev Singh, the election in-charge of the Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De candidate from Tarn Taran, leaving him severely burnt. He has been admitted to Ludhiana’s DMC Hospital in critical condition.

According to leaders of MP Amritpal Singh’s party, Sukhdev informed them that his car was suddenly stopped and attacked with a petrol bomb, causing it to catch fire. However, Amritsar Police have not confirmed it as a petrol bomb attack.

Amritsar DCP Ravinderpal Sandhu said the vehicle was parked on the roadside with its handbrake engaged, and the matter is being probed from all possible angles.

Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Thakkar Sandhu village in Gurdaspur, serves as the chief campaigner and spokesperson for Mandeep Singh Khalsa, the party’s Tarn Taran candidate. Mandeep, who has been fielded by MP Amritpal Singh’s party, is the brother of Sandeep Sunny—an accused in the killing of Hindu leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar.

Party leaders said Sukhdev had gone to Tarn Taran for campaigning on November 6 and was returning to Gurdaspur that night. When he reached Verka in Amritsar, an unidentified person allegedly stopped his car and hurled an object resembling a petrol bomb, triggering the blaze.
