Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Wednesday appointed Gurmeet Singh as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Fazilka. The move came hours after the suspension of SSP Varinder Singh Brar in connection with a bribery case involving a minor boy.
Brar was suspended earlier in the day following preliminary findings in the case.
Officials said the action was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure accountability within the police force.
Gurmeet Singh will take charge of the Fazilka police amid heightened scrutiny and is expected to oversee the ongoing probe and restore public trust in the district administration.
