Dinanagar (Gurdaspur): Inspector Balbir Singh, who was injured in a terror attack at Dinanagar police station in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district 10 years ago, will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the state government to grant him this promotion.
At the time of the attack on July 27, 2015, Balbir Singh was posted as an inspector in the Special Operations Cell. During the assault, he played a crucial role in rescuing the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Gurdaspur. He sustained injuries from two AK-47 bullets fired by terrorists and underwent surgery at a private hospital in Amritsar.
The High Court noted that the state government had earlier decided to promote all employees affected by the Dinanagar police station incident and had not withdrawn this decision. Therefore, Inspector Balbir Singh is entitled to the promotion.
On August 3, the state government condemned the Dinanagar terror attack and announced jobs for families of slain policemen, along with promotions for the injured officers. Balbir Singh was also awarded a gallantry medal on Independence Day for his bravery.
