Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has transferred the investigation into the attack on Colonel Karan Bath in Patiala to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The move comes after Colonel Bath’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the probe being conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Chandigarh Police.

The family had approached the High Court, claiming that the SIT was not actively pursuing the case. Colonel Bath’s wife recently raised concerns in an interview, stating that no arrests had been made by the Chandigarh Police so far.

Colonel Bath, in an earlier petition, had alleged that he and his son were “brutally” attacked on the intervening night of March 13 and 14 in Patiala.

He had accused four inspector-rank Punjab Police officers and their armed personnel of assaulting them without provocation, snatching their official ID cards and mobile phones, and threatening them with fake encounters.

The family had been demanding that the investigation be handed over to the CBI or that the existing SIT be replaced, citing a lack of progress in the case.
