Amritsar: A lawyer was shot at by unidentified assailants in Jandiala Guru in Amritsar district on Monday morning. The victim, identified as Lakhwinder Singh, was on his way to Amritsar court from his home when three young men ambushed and fired indiscriminately at his car.
Singh was seriously injured in the attack and was admitted to a hospital in Amritsar for treatment. Police said the incident appears to be a planned conspiracy, although the reason behind the firing is not yet clear. Preliminary investigation has not revealed any old enmity or extortion-related angle.
Following the incident, Jandiala police reached the spot and began investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify the attackers.
Jandiala DSP Ravindra Singh said that efforts are on to identify and arrest the accused soon. He added that a case has been registered based on the statement of advocate Lakhwinder Singh and that the investigation is progressing swiftly.
