Birth of a Daughter is Now a Festival — True Sign of Social Change: Dr. Baljit Kaur

Jalandhar News: Further strengthening the objective of Beti Bachao–Beti Padhao, a grand Lohri celebration was organised at Johl Farm, village Ghurka, in honour of 5,100 newborn girls.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, wife of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chairperson of the Punjab State Women Commission Mrs. Raj Lali Gill and Chairman of Punjab Agri Food Corporation Limited Mr. Mangal Singh Bassi, who collectively reinforced the message of saving and empowering the girl child in society.

Punjab Cabinet Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, specially attended the function and said that celebrating Lohri for 5,100 newborn girls is a clear reflection of the positive transformation in society’s mindset towards daughters. She extended warm Lohri greetings to the parents of the newborn girls and honoured them on the occasion.

The Cabinet Minister stated that celebrating the birth of a daughter as a festival is the true indicator of progressive social change. She highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is implementing several welfare-oriented schemes to ensure the safety, education, and empowerment of girls, so that every daughter receives dignity, equality, and equal opportunities to move forward.

Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasised that along with government initiatives, active participation of social organisations and people at the grassroots level is essential to make the Beti Bachao movement successful. Such collective events, she added, strengthen the values of equality, respect, and social responsibility among the younger generation.

Appreciating the efforts behind the initiative, the Cabinet Minister lauded Johl Farm Sewa Society and other collaborators associated with the event, stating that such social initiatives play a significant role in creating a positive and supportive environment for daughters.
