This is such a ‘shagun’ (auspicious gift) whose echo is ringing like shehnai (celebratory music) of happiness in thousands of homes.

This is not just a government statistic, but a story of tears of joy and sighs of relief from 5,751 families. When the Mann government of Punjab released ₹29.33 crore under the ‘Aashirwad Scheme’, it was as if a festival of happiness arrived in thousands of homes. This decision not only removed their financial troubles but also gave new flight to their self-respect, so they could conduct their daughters’ weddings with their heads held high. This step is not merely part of a scheme, but a strong promise to secure the future of those daughters whose eyes were once filled with fear of uncertainty. This government ‘Aashirwad’ has proven that for a sensitive government, both the people’s pain and their happiness are the biggest priorities. This initiative has given an emotional and inspirational message that work done with right intention and transparency can bring positive change in thousands of lives. This is the government’s true ‘shagun’ for poor families. The Mann government has ensured that now a poor father doesn’t have to beg before anyone for his daughter’s wedding nor get buried under debt. This amount gives them the courage to bid farewell to their daughter with self-respect.

Punjab’s Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that under the Aashirwad Scheme, the Punjab government has released ₹29.33 crore to 5,751 beneficiaries of Scheduled Castes as wedding assistance during the current financial year 2025-26. Giving more information, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the Aashirwad Scheme for Scheduled Castes, applications from 5,751 beneficiaries were received through the Aashirwad portal from 17 districts – Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Firozpur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar, Sangrur and Malerkotla. ₹29.33 crore has been distributed to cover all these beneficiaries. She said that through this allocation, 58 beneficiaries from Barnala, 633 from Bathinda, 67 from Faridkot, 349 from Firozpur, 106 from Fatehgarh Sahib, 265 from Gurdaspur and 70 from Hoshiarpur have received financial assistance. Similarly, 1,087 from Jalandhar, 839 from Ludhiana, 885 from Moga, 192 from Sri Muktsar Sahib, 357 from Patiala, 147 from Rupnagar, 65 from SAS Nagar, 359 from SBS Nagar, 210 from Sangrur and 62 beneficiaries from Malerkotla have benefited from it.

Dr. Baljit Kaur further said that to avail this scheme, the applicant must be a permanent resident of Punjab and belong to Scheduled Caste, Backward Class or other economically weaker sections. The annual income from all sources of the family should not exceed ₹32,790 and each eligible family can receive assistance for maximum two daughters. The Cabinet Minister emphasized that financial assistance is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. She reiterated that the Punjab government is continuously striving to uplift the living standards of people from all sections of society and empower them economically. Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that under Chief Minister Mann’s dynamic leadership, the Punjab government is equally committed to the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and economically weaker sections and is ensuring inclusive development and social justice across the state.

The biggest thing is that this amount now reaches directly into the beneficiary’s bank account without any middleman or bribery. When a mother receives a message on her mobile about ₹51,000 being deposited, she blesses the Mann government from her heart. Applications that were gathering dust for years during previous governments have been prioritized by the Mann government. Recently, by releasing crores of rupees, thousands of pending families have been given relief. This shows that for this government, people’s pain is not just a file, but a responsibility. This scheme reflects Punjab’s sentiment where a daughter is considered ‘Lakshmi’ (goddess of wealth). The Bhagwant Mann government has proven that their government stands as support for weaker sections. The ‘Aashirwad Scheme’ is a ray of hope for every family that dreams of bidding farewell to their daughter happily. This initiative is not just financial help, it is the biggest proof of humanity that will always have a place in the hearts of Punjab’s people.

The name of ‘Aashirwad Scheme’ was earlier ‘Shagun Scheme’, but the Mann government has made it a true ‘Aashirwad’. Under this scheme, ₹51,000 financial assistance is given for marriage to daughters of Scheduled Caste, Backward Class and economically weaker families. This amount is very significant for families whose annual income is very low. The biggest relief is that this money is now sent directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts (through DBT). This has completely eliminated the role of middlemen, and the needy are receiving their rightful share honestly. The released amount is not for one or two, but for daughters from 17 districts of Punjab. This shows that the government believes not just in announcements, but in doing welfare equally across the entire state. This step by the Mann government is not just distributing money. It is a social message that a poor family’s daughter is just as precious as any rich family’s daughter. This amount gives peace to that father’s heart who wants to bid farewell to his daughter with respect. When a poor family receives this ₹51,000 just before the wedding, it is nothing less than a miracle for them. It saves them from taking loans, stops them from bowing in the market, and most importantly, makes the daughter realize that the entire government stands with her. Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, the Punjab government is ensuring that welfare schemes are not limited to papers but actually bring change in people’s lives. This distribution of ₹29.33 crore proves that public welfare is this government’s biggest priority. Truly, this ‘Aashirwad’ is filling the lives of thousands of daughters with colors of happiness.
