Chandigarh: In an all-party meeting convened by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), various political parties extended their support to the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the Punjab government’s land pooling policy. The meeting, attended by representatives of 10 political parties, saw no participation from the ruling party.
The meeting unanimously passed resolutions demanding the immediate cancellation of the land pooling policy notification. It was decided that the agitation would continue until the policy is withdrawn if the state government does not act.
The SKM also demanded that agriculture and allied businesses be excluded from the free trade agreement being launched with the United States.
It passed a resolution urging the Punjab government to seek the cancellation of water agreements and the repeal of Sections 78, 79 and 80 of the Punjab Reorganisation Act in the Vidhan Sabha and Parliament.
The farmer leaders also demanded the implementation of a comprehensive agricultural policy in the state.
Farmer leaders Balbir Singh Rajewal, Dr Darshan Pal, Buta Singh Burj Gill, Harinder Singh Lakhowal and Raminder Singh Patiala addressed a joint press conference after the meeting, reiterating their stand to continue the agitation until the demands are met.
