Punjab News: The Punjab government presented its forward-thinking industrial reform agenda, sector-specific policy initiatives, and major infrastructure projects at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region council meeting in Amritsar. The goal is to boost investment momentum in the state.
CII Northern Region Chairperson Mrs. Anjali Singh welcomed Minister Sanjeev Arora and said Punjab is quickly becoming a preferred destination for high-quality investment. She highlighted SUJAN’s ₹150 crore investment in Punjab’s hospitality sector, starting from Amritsar, as strong proof of the improving investment climate.
She said, “This major investment strengthens Punjab’s premium tourism sector and shows growing confidence in the state’s economic revival. With the government’s progressive steps and ‘Ease of Doing Business’ reforms, we expect significant growth in tourism-based investment.”
Mrs. Singh suggested the government actively promote available land banks, develop cold-chain infrastructure for agricultural and perishable products, identify heritage sites to boost tourism, and consider appointing state brand ambassadors to promote Punjab nationally and globally.
Minister Sanjeev Arora (Industry, Commerce, Investment Promotion, Power, and NRI Affairs) told the council that the government is committed to creating a strong, responsive, and future-focused industrial environment.
He said, “Punjab is moving forward with a clear reform-oriented roadmap. We’ve formed 24 sectoral committees and will soon release a Master Industrial Policy—with dedicated policies for every major sector—giving investors long-term clarity.”
The Minister shared that Punjab is preparing a long-term power plan based on energy needs until 2035, including a potential mix of thermal and renewable energy.
To strengthen industrial infrastructure, he announced that land has been identified for two new exhibition centers in Mohali and Ludhiana, with tendering underway. A third exhibition center is being planned in Amritsar, with land identification in progress.
Mentioning reforms under the ‘Right to Business’ law, the Minister said Green category and many Orange category industrial units will receive permissions within just five days.
On logistics and connectivity, he shared that Punjab currently has 10 ICDs, two freight container stations, two international airports, and the operational Adampur airport. The upcoming Halwara airport will further strengthen the state’s logistics capabilities.
The meeting concluded on a positive note from both industry and government, highlighting Punjab’s growth journey, increasing investment attractiveness, and tourism-based development potential—all strengthened by SUJAN’s significant investment commitment.
