Punjab minister Harjot Singh Bains performs religious sewa at Gurdwara Sisganj Sahib

Chandigarh: Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains arrived barefoot at Gurdwara Sisganj Sahib around 8 am today to complete the religious punishment imposed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

He first paid obeisance and prayed for the well-being of the Sarbat before serving for an hour in the Gurdwara Sahib’s ‘Joda Ghar’.

The action follows a directive from the Punjab Government’s Language Department, which summoned Bains after taking note of a cultural performance in Srinagar commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.

The event had featured a Punjabi artist singing and some people performing bhangra, prompting Sri Akal Takht Sahib to impose religious service as penance.

Bains is also scheduled to perform an hour-long ‘Joda jhadan’ sewa at Gurdwara Sisganj Sahib on August 10. Speaking to reporters after today’s service, he said he was fulfilling the directive with the blessings of Guru Sahib, adding, “Human beings are forgetful and God is the Giver.”
