Chandigarh: In a bid to curb the smuggling of drugs and weapons, the Punjab government will equip the state police with modern anti-drone systems. The initiative will be formally launched in Tarn Taran today by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The government has procured nine hi-tech anti-drone systems at a cost of ₹51.41 crore. Officials said the technology will be a “game-changer” in preventing cross-border smuggling.
The systems can pinpoint the exact location of a drone and its control station, while also issuing alerts and automatic danger warnings on real-time maps.
Authorities believe the advanced equipment will significantly strengthen border security and help dismantle smuggling networks operating from across the border.
