Punjab schools, colleges and universities to reopen from tomorrow: Harjot Bains

Chandigarh: Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that all government, private and aided schools, colleges and universities in the state will reopen as usual from tomorrow. However, in case any institution has been affected by floods, the decision to keep it closed will be taken by the respective district deputy commissioner.

Bains said that private school managements must ensure that their buildings and classrooms are completely safe for students and teachers.

He announced that all government schools will remain closed for students on September 8. Teachers, however, will be present on duty to carry out cleaning activities with the help of School Management Committees (SMCs), panchayats, municipal councils and corporations.

Teachers have also been directed to thoroughly inspect school buildings. Any issue or damage found should be immediately reported to the deputy commissioner and the engineering department.

The minister added that from September 9, all government schools will resume normal functioning.
