Chandigarh: Veteran Punjabi actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, widely regarded as the king of Punjabi comedy, was cremated in Mohali on Saturday. His son, Pukhraj, lit the funeral pyre.
Actors Gippy Grewal and Binnu Dhillon broke down in tears as they bid farewell to Bhalla. A large number of fans also gathered at the crematorium to pay their last respects, prompting tight police arrangements to manage the crowd.
Prominent figures from the Punjabi film industry, including Neeru Bajwa, Hans Raj Hans, Amar Noori, Mankirat Aulakh, Jimmy Shergill and comedian B.N. Rahman, were present. Political leaders, among them Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, AAP minister Tarunpreet Saundh and former minister Balbir Sidhu, also attended.
Bhalla passed away on Friday morning at the age of 65 after suffering a brain stroke. Born on May 4, 1960, in Doraha, Ludhiana, he leaves behind a rich legacy in Punjabi cinema and comedy.
