“Creating confusion among Sikh sangat while holding a revered position is unjustifiable in any manner” – Giani Gurmukh Singh
Amritsar News: Reacting to a statement issued to the media by the Head Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, the Head Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Gurmukh Singh, stated that the sewa (care and restoration) of the sacred saroop (holy scripture) that was damaged during the Saka Sri Nankana Sahib was being carried out with complete reverence, strictly in accordance with established maryada (religious code of conduct).
He further clarified that the sewa of the sacred arms was also undertaken based on expert opinion, keeping necessity as the primary consideration. Giani Gurmukh Singh said that during the time when the sewa of the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the sacred arms was being conducted, Giani Raghbir Singh himself was serving at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
He emphasized that while holding a highly respected position, creating confusion among the Sikh sangat on matters deeply connected with Sikh sentiments is unacceptable under any circumstances. He clarified that the sacred saroop related to Saka Sri Nankana Sahib had been deteriorating due to dampness, and considering it a collective responsibility, the Sikh institution decided to proceed with its sewa. During this process, numerous devotees had darshan of the sacred saroop.
Giani Gurmukh Singh stated that there was also a genuine need to carry out the sewa of the sacred arms associated with Guru Sahib, as these had been damaged during the June 1984 military attack. He said that the kar sewa was entrusted to Baba Balwinder Singh and Baba Narinder Singh of Hazur Sahib, who got the work done through expert craftsmen. Throughout the sewa, due care was taken to preserve antiquity and uphold full reverence.
He further said that the question raised by Giani Raghbir Singh regarding the hilt of a kirpan was completely baseless. He also appealed to the Sikh sangat to remain vigilant against such misleading propaganda.
