“People should not believe in any kind of rumours about floods,” says Deputy Commissioner
Patiala News: In view of the rising water levels in the Ghaggar and Tangri rivers in Ghanaur and Dudhan Sadhan areas, the Patiala District Administration has issued an advisory urging residents of nearby villages to stay away from the riverbanks and ensure that children and cattle also do not venture near the water channels.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav informed that special vigil is being maintained in villages of Ghanaur, including Untsar, Kami Khurd, Chamaru and Sarala, while strengthening work is underway on the eroding banks near Marhu. Similarly, in Dudhan Sadhan subdivision, where Ghaggar’s water level has risen near villages such as Bhasmra, Jalah Kheri and Kheri Raju Singh, continuous monitoring is in place.
She added that residents of villages along the Tangri river in Dudhan Sadhan subdivision—including Mehmadpur Roorkee, Devi Nagar, Harigarh, Rohar Jagir, Lehal Jagir, Dudhan Gujran, Adalatwala, Maghar Sahib, Mohalgarh (downstream), Khansa, Rattakhera, Aujjan, Khatauli, Ganeshpur, Kharabgarh, Bibipur, Jodhpur, Budhmore and Sadik Pur Biran—have also been advised to exercise caution. Monitoring is similarly being carried out in Hadana, Pur and Sirkappara villages of Patiala subdivision.
Dr. Yadav said that SDM Rajpura Avikesh Gupta, SDM Dudhan Sadhan Kirpalveer Singh, and SDM Patiala Harjit Kaur Mavi, along with their teams and the Drainage Department, are keeping a close watch on the situation. Superintending Engineer Rajinder Ghai and Executive Engineer Pratham Gambhir are supervising works to strengthen weak embankments using soil-filled bags and jumbo bags wherever required.
Appealing to the public, the Deputy Commissioner said: “Do not believe in any rumours regarding floods. Please rely only on official information issued by the administration. Residents may also contact the District Flood Control Room at 0175-2350550 or 0175-2358550 for updates.”
She further clarified that there is no threat of water entering Patiala’s Vaddi Nadi and urged city residents not to panic. “The district administration is fully alert and committed to ensuring the safety of life and property of citizens in every way,” Dr. Yadav said.
