Row erupts over Jagdish Tytler’s presence with Rahul Gandhi at I-Day flag hoisting

Chandigarh: Punjab politics has heated up after a picture of 1984 Delhi riots accused Jagdish Tytler surfaced alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the party’s Independence Day programme.

Rahul Gandhi himself had shared pictures from the event on social media, in which Tytler can be clearly seen standing behind him.

The development sparked sharp criticism from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP leaders, who accused the Congress of betraying the Sikh community. They demanded that Rahul Gandhi apologise and clarify his stand on Sikhs.

Opposition leaders argued that since the Independence Day function was a national-level programme of the Congress, attended by only selected invitees, Tytler’s presence amounted to an insult to Sikhs.

AAP spokesperson Neel Garg lashed out at the Congress, saying, “There is hardly any other double standard than the Congress. The politics of the Congress, Ram-Ram in the mouth, a knife in the side.”

He said, “The whole world knows what is the biggest massacre in independent India. Those who are considered guilty are seen in Congress programs. It is like rubbing salt on the wounds.”

He further said that Congress must make it clear whether it stands “with the murderers or with justice,” adding that no justice-loving person can tolerate such actions.
