Rs 20,000 Per Acre Major Relief for Flood Victims Before Diwali, Rs 209 Crore Released in Just 30 Days

Mann Government Fulfills Guarantee! Flood Damage Compensation Reaches 14 Districts

Punjab E News:  The flame of happiness has once again lit up in the homes of flood-affected farmers in Punjab before Diwali. The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has created a new history by fulfilling its promise to provide compensation and relief within just thirty days. This is not just an administrative decision, but an example of a sensitive and public-serving government that has truly kept its word to stand by its people through thick and thin.

The state government has released the first installment of a total of ₹209 crore for flood-affected farmers and families, of which ₹3.50 crore will be distributed to flood victims in Sangrur district. Punjab’s Finance and Planning Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, launched the compensation distribution from the Dhuri assembly constituency, handing over approval letters to eight flood-affected families. On this occasion, he stated that the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has ensured that no victim has to wait for months to receive their rightful amount.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had personally launched “Mission Punarvas” (Mission Rehabilitation) by distributing checks worth ₹5.70 crore to 631 farmers in Ajnala. This initiative has set a new benchmark across the country, as this is the first time any state government has provided compensation of ₹20,000 per acre to farmers. Furthermore, families whose houses were damaged in the floods are now being given ₹40,000 in aid, a significant increase from the previous amount of only ₹4,000.

Harpal Singh Cheema said that the government of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is not just providing relief, but also respect. He clarified that the government’s goal is not limited to compensation distribution; it aims to help the affected families stand on their own feet again through “Mission Punarvas.” He informed that 13 Cabinet Ministers are visiting flood-affected areas across the state to distribute the relief amount and ensure that no family is deprived of government assistance.

On this occasion, Cheema said that the Punjab government tackled the flood with full strength and the cooperation of the people. Had rescue and relief operations not been initiated in time, the damage would have been many times greater. He praised the promptness of the Sangrur District Administration, stating that the fact that no embankment breached despite the Ghaggar River reaching a water level of 755 feet proves that the administration performed excellently in disaster management.

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba said that advance arrangements were made to cope with the emergency as per the directions of the Punjab government. Consequently, not a single embankment breached in the 41-kilometer stretch of the Ghaggar River despite heavy rainfall. He attributed this to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the timely action of the state government.

Harpal Singh Cheema appealed to the Central Government to release the ₹1,600 crore aid announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as soon as possible. He stated that the ₹240 crore released so far by the Centre is merely a part of the annual installment, while Punjab awaits the actual assistance. Accusing the Centre of discrimination, he said that the “Mann Government” stands strong in every crisis with its own resources and the cooperation of the public.

Gurmel Singh, a farmer from Sangrur, became emotional and said, “For the first time, a government has understood our pain so quickly. Now we feel that the government is truly with us.” Jaswinder Kaur, a member of a flood-affected family, said, “The light of Diwali has come to our house this time because of the government. The Mann Government has truly won hearts.”

This compensation, released before Diwali, is not just relief but part of the Punjab government’s policy, which is committed to giving every Punjabi a self-reliant and dignified life. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, “Mission Punarvas” is laying the foundation for new hopes in Punjab — a Punjab that does not fear difficulties but overcomes every crisis with new resolve.

This initiative is proof that when the leadership is honest and public-serving, every decision of the government touches the hearts of the people. This time, the light of Diwali is not just shining in homes but in the hearts of every Punjabi because the “Mann Government” has proven once again that what was promised, was delivered!
