Amritsar/ In a breakthrough in the murder case of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor Harjinder Singh alias Bahman, the Punjab Police arrested one of the attackers following a brief encounter in Amritsar.
The accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, was injured during the exchange of fire and was later apprehended by the police.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, in a post on his social media account, said the police acted swiftly and arrested the attacker within eight hours of the incident.
The encounter took place in the Fatehpur area when Gurpreet allegedly opened fire at the police team chasing him. In response, the SHO of Chheharta police station fired back, injuring the accused in his right leg.
Police recovered a nine-mm Glock pistol from Gurpreet, who has been admitted to the civil hospital for treatment.
