Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has announced Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa as the party’s candidate for the by-election to the Tarn Taran Assembly constituency.
Sukhbir made the announcement while addressing a gathering at Dana Mandi in Jhabal, the native village of the party’s first president, Sarmukh Singh Jhabal. The Tarn Taran seat fell vacant following the death of MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal.
Sukhbir Badal also appealed to the people to strengthen the regional party. Bibi Sukhwinder Kaur, who had been active in the constituency under the ‘Azad Group’, was elected as its leader a few days ago. She was formally inducted into the SAD by Sukhbir Badal before being declared the party’s candidate.
Addressing the gathering, Badal launched a scathing attack on opposition parties, particularly the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress. He accused the AAP of being responsible for sacrilege incidents and alleged that the party was eyeing the land of Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Tarn Taran to loot the farmers of Punjab.
