Surya Enclave and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Avenue will celebrate Diwali after 18 years: Nitin Kohli

Surya Enclave and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Avenue are set to receive a Diwali gift, thanks to Nitin Kohli’s efforts, as the MCJ approved the handover proposal and forwarded it to the Local Bodies Department on Friday

Jalandhar News:  Residents of Surya Enclave and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Avenue are set to celebrate this Diwali with renewed hope, as the long-pending handover of both colonies to the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (MC) nears completion.

On Friday, the MC held a meeting and passed a resolution accepting the transfer of the colonies. The resolution has now been forwarded to the Local Bodies Department for final approval, paving the way for essential civic development works.

The success comes after the consistent follow-up of Nitin Kohli, AAP’s Jalandhar Central Halka Incharge, and the intervention of Improvement Trust Chairman Ramnik Randhawa, Mayor Vineet Dhir and MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi. The Joint Action Committee of Surya Enclave and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Avenue also actively participated, ensuring long-standing demands were finally addressed.

Earlier this month, Nitin Kohli had written to the Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) requesting that the colonies be handed over to the MC to provide residents with basic civic amenities. He then followed up by writing directly to the Municipal Corporation, urging immediate action to expedite the process.

For years, residents had complained of broken roads, inadequate streetlights, and irregular water supply in these areas.

“This is a moment of relief for the residents of Surya Enclave and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Avenue,” Nitin Kohli said. “The Municipal Corporation has accepted the resolution and forwarded it to Chandigarh. We expect formal approval within a week to ten days. Once the MC formally takes charge, all pending works — from road repairs to streetlight installation and water supply improvements — will be addressed promptly,” he added.

Residents welcomed the announcement as a long-awaited “Diwali gift.” A resident of Surya Enclave said, “We have been asking for basic development for years. It is heartening to see the matter finally moving forward. We hope the work begins soon.”

Mayor Vaneet Dhir assured locals that the MC is ready to commence development immediately after receiving approval from the Local Bodies Department within seven to ten days. “These colonies are prime areas in Jalandhar, and their development will now be a top priority,” he said.
