Two gangsters demanding ransom arrested during police encounter

Two country-made pistols, ammunition, and 110 intoxicating tablets recovered

Jalandhar News: Under the special campaign launched by Punjab Police on the directions of the Punjab Government against smugglers, anti-social elements, and gangsters, the Jalandhar Rural Police have succeeded in arresting two dangerous gangsters demanding ransom during a police encounter, from whom a large quantity of intoxicating tablets, 2 illegal pistols, and ammunition have been recovered.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar Rural, Harvinder Singh Virk informed that this success was achieved by the team of DSP Shahkot Onkar Singh Barar, SHO Shahkot Police Station, Balwinder Singh Bhullar.

The SSP informed that the Shahkot Sub-Division Police received information at 4:45 am on Monday about two suspicious youths in villages Sadikpur, Dhandowal, Talwandi Sanghera, Billi Chaharmi, Bhullar, Nawan Qila, Kotli Gajran, etc. Upon receiving the information, the senior officer immediately informed nearby police stations and senior officers through the Jalandhar Rural Control Room, and various police parties were sent for patrolling in the these areas. At around 6:15 AM, the police party tried to stop two masked youths riding a motorcycle on suspicion near the under-bridge at village Kotli Gajran on the road leading to the railway station, but they immediately turned the motorcycle to escape. 

When the police party tried to stop the motorcycle riders, they fired upon the police party. The police party, in self-defense, fired back to catch the suspects, during which both accused were shot once each in their legs, and from the spot, two country-made 32-bore pistols, 5 rounds, 110 intoxicating tablets, and a motorcycle were recovered from their possession. After the police encounter, the accused were immediately sent for medical treatment to the Civil Hospital, Nakodar. He informed that the arrested accused have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Khanna, resident of village Donewala Nawan, and Ajay Kumar alias Ajay Baba, resident of village Kandola Kalan. The SSP informed that initial investigation has revealed that both are members of a highly dangerous gang involved in drug smuggling, arms, and ransom, and 8 members of this gang were arrested recently by Lohian Police Station. The main leaders of this gang are sitting in America and England, and in the name of the gang leader, these people threaten various businessmen of the Lohian area demanding hefty ransom and are involved in large-scale drug trade. The SSP informed that various cases of ransom and attempt to murder have already been registered against them in different police stations, and they were absconding. He informed that Ajay Baba is also wanted in cases of firing, ransom, and supplying weapons to those doing reconnaissance cases registered in PS Sadar Nakodar and Lohian police stations. Similarly, Lakhwinder Singh alias Khanna is also wanted in 3 cases registered in Lohian Police Station related to ransom demands of Rs 50 lakh.
