Chandigarh: Two persons were killed and six others were seriously injured in a road accident near Jodepul late Monday night, police said.
According to officials, Ramanjeet Singh, a resident of Mehsampur in Sangrur district who had been living in Bhadi village, Malerkotla, for the past 13 years, was returning to Amargarh from Chamkaur Sahib in a Bolero along with several relatives when the vehicle collided with a speeding tractor-trolley loaded with straw near Jorapul.
All occupants of the Bolero sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital, where Ramanjeet Singh and Amandeep Singh died during treatment. The condition of the other injured persons is reported to be critical.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident occurred due to the speeding of the tractor-trolley. Police have registered a case based on statements from eyewitnesses and have launched an investigation. The trolley driver fled the scene under the cover of darkness and efforts are on to arrest him, police said.
