Veteran sprinter Fauja Singh cremated with state honours in Beas

Chandigarh: Veteran sprinter Fauja Singh was cremated with state honours at his native village Beas on Sunday.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and several other leaders were present at the cremation to pay their last respects.

A contingent of Punjab Police gave a guard of honour to the centenarian sprinter as villagers and a large number of fans bid him farewell with moist eyes.

Earlier in the day, Governor Kataria visited Beas to pay tribute to Fauja Singh and met his family members. Speaking to reporters, the Governor said that Fauja Singh was full of confidence and always spoke positively.

Later, Chief Minister Mann paid tribute to the veteran sprinter at the crematorium. A large number of Fauja Singh’s fans, family members and friends were present during the final rites to bid him a tearful farewell.
