Patiala: A 24-year-old woman and her nine-month-old daughter allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a goods train near Patiala, police said on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Gurpreet Kaur and her daughter Ravneet Kaur, residents of Dhamu Majra village.
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the loco pilot informed Patiala railway station authorities immediately after the incident. When the police reached the spot, they found blood scattered on the railway tracks but could not find the bodies. SHO Jaswinder Singh said that Gurpreet’s family had taken the bodies away before the police arrived.
“The condition of the bodies was very bad, and there was blood on the tracks. After speaking to the family, the bodies were kept at the civil hospital for postmortem,” Singh said.
Locals said that body parts were found scattered on the tracks following the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that Gurpreet had a love marriage with Dharmendra five years ago, and the couple reportedly lived peacefully for four years.
However, family members claimed that Dharmendra had recently developed a relationship with another woman at his workplace, leading to frequent arguments at home.
The GRP has initiated further investigation into the matter.
